Match day #16: Bremen welcomes Ochsenhausen, Bergneustadt travels to Fulda
The teams in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) have seven matches left to finish the main round as successfully as possible. Ahead of match day 16, the race is still completely open, both at the top of the table and at the bottom. The match day kicks off tomorrow, Monday, with the match between Borussia Dortmund and TSV Bad Königshofen. Later on, there will be a top match between SV Werder Bremen and TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen on Wednesday. All matches will be broadcast live on Dyn.
Borussia Dortmund – TSV Bad Königshofen
Although their recent winning streak came to an end last week, Borussia Dortmund's goal remains unchanged: BVB wants to fight its way into the top four of the league in the last seven games of the main round. “Everything is still possible for us,” said Dortmund's Kristian Karlsson ahead of tomorrow's clash with TSV Bad Königshofen. After their recent 1-3 defeat in Bergneustadt, BVB are in sixth place with 16:14 points, just two points behind the top four. “We take Bad Königshofen very seriously and are therefore planning to field our best team,” explains Dortmund coach Evgeny Fadeev. The Lower Franconians are more dangerous than their current position in the table suggests. Although Bad Königshofen remains at the bottom of the table, they are within sight of the non-relegation zone with 8:22 points. In the second half of the season, TSV, which has strengthened its squad with Xue Fei, has already secured two victories, the same number as in the entire first half of the season. Most recently, however, they suffered defeats in Saarbrücken and against Fulda (both 1-3).
TTC OE Clarity-Telefonie Systeme Bad Homburg – Post SV Mühlhausen
Both TTC OE Clarity-Telefonie Systeme Bad Homburg and Post SV Mühlhausen can look back on a successful second half of the season in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) so far. Both teams have already secured two victories: Bad Homburg won in Fulda and Grünwettersbach (both 3-1), while Mühlhausen also won in Grünwettersbach (3-1) and against Fulda (3-2). Given this parallel progress, it is not surprising that both teams are level in the table. With 12:18 points each, TTC and Post SV are in mid-table and have a four-point lead over the relegation zone. The first leg in September was narrowly won by Mühlhausen: Marcos Freitas triumphed in the singles and doubles with Ovidiu Ionescu, and Kay Stumper was also successful for the Thuringians.
Borussia Düsseldorf – ASC Grünwettersbach
Participation in the Liebherr TTBL Final Four is already within reach for Borussia Düsseldorf: with 24:6 points, the record champions have pulled away from numerous pursuers, with an impressive eight-point lead over fifth place. It is therefore unlikely that Düsseldorf will be displaced from the top four, but they will still want to maintain their position at the top of the table in order to face a presumably easier opponent in the semifinals. Borussia is currently just ahead of Bremen (24:6) and Saarbrücken (22:8). Anton Källberg and Dang Qiu recently suffered setbacks on the international stage at the Europe Top 16: Källberg lost to Benedikt Duda in the round of 16 in Montreux, while Qiu lost to Tomislav Pucar (both 2-3). The situation looks rather bleak for ASC Grünwettersbach, however. The Baden-based club has gone seven games without a win, most recently losing 1-3 to Bad Homburg. With 8:22 points, Grünwettersbach finds itself in the midst of a relegation battle.
1.FC Saarbrücken TT – TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau
Transfer news has been dominating the headlines surrounding 1. FC Saarbrücken TT in recent days: first, the cup winners announced the departure of Darko Jorgic, then, a few days later, the signing of Hugo Calderano. While plans for the 2026/27 season are in full swing, the focus remains firmly on the next goals – FCS wants to win two more titles in the TTBL and Champions League and thus achieve the triple for the first time. The Saarland team is currently on target in both competitions. In the TTBL, they are third in the table with 22:8 points and on course for the Liebherr TTBL Final Four. TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau, on the other hand, finds itself where it has been in recent years: fighting against relegation. With 8:22 points, coach Slobodan Grujic's team fell to last place in the table after today's 0-3 defeat to Bremen, but is level with Grünwettersbach and Bad Königshofen. Grenzau will have to do without Feng Yi-Hsin and Luka Mladenovic on Tuesday. “The absences are obviously a big blow,” says TTC manager Markus Ströher. “But this season has already shown several times that anything is possible in every game.”
SV Werder Bremen – TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen
The top match of match day #16 will take place in the Klaus-Dieter-Fischer-Halle: On Wednesday evening, SV Werder Bremen will host TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen and could take a big step towards reaching the semi-finals with a win. TTF are currently the closest challengers to the top four. With 16:14 points, the reigning champions are two points behind fourth place, but already eight points behind second-placed Bremen. Ochsenhausen's form has been on a sharp downward trend recently, with defeats against Bergneustadt and Dortmund (both 1-3) as well as Saarbrücken. “We have to work together to find our energy again,” said TTF coach Bogdan Pugna after the recent 0:3 defeat against FCS. "We will look ahead, take each game as it comes and continue to work hard. It's not a crisis – situations like this also create new opportunities, and the successes will come back." Werder, on the other hand, has been in the top four since the start of the season, is level with league leaders Düsseldorf on 24:6 points and has excellent prospects of participating in the Liebherr TTBL Final Four. Just today, Sunday, they won 3:0 in Grenzau.
TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell – TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt
TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell started the season with ambitions of reaching the semi-finals, but that goal now seems a long way off. The team from eastern Hesse is already six points behind fourth place – if they are to catch up, they must win against TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt on Wednesday. Bergneustadt is exactly where Fulda wants to be: in fourth place and thus in the semifinals. With 18:12 points, Benedikt Duda and his teammates have been holding their own in the top group since the start of the season. And they are also in good form: Bergneustadt recently celebrated three wins in a row, including against playoff rivals Ochsenhausen and Dortmund (both 3-1). Duda is also shining on the international stage: the 31-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Europe Top 16 for the first time, where he lost to Darko Jorgic (1-3) on Sunday. Fulda, on the other hand, recently ended its slump: after five TTBL defeats in a row, they won 3-1 in Bad Königshofen.
