Ochsenhausen also wins in Mühlhausen

TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen continues to climb the table in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). At the end of match day #7 on Thursday, the reigning German champions secured a 3:2 victory at Post SV Mühlhausen, climbing to fifth place in the table.

TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen is steadily climbing the table in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL). After two defeats at the start of the season, the 3:2 win at Post SV Mühlhausen was their fourth victory in the last five games. With 8:6 points, the Swabians moved past TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell, who were level on points, in the table after losing 1:3 to TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt on Wednesday, and are now fifth.

Mühlhausen, on the other hand, is in a slump. Although the Thuringians managed a 3-1 win against HB Ostrov in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 on Tuesday, it was the fourth consecutive defeat for Post SV in the TTBL. "That was a bitter defeat. Completely bitter, very disappointing,“ Mühlhausen coach Erik Schreyer said afterwards on the Dyn microphone. The 37-year-old said the third set of the doubles was decisive: ”The young wild ones from Ochsenhausen played more actively and courageously. We gave up a little bit. And then you carry that lost set with you into the rest of the game. That shouldn't happen to us."

Shunsuke Togami defeats Steffen Mengel and Marcos Freitas

Mühlhausen's Steffen Mengel and Ovidiu Ionescu were leading 9-4 against Tiago Abiodun and Iulian Chirita in the third set, securing two set points, but ultimately lost the set 10-12. A few minutes later, Abiodun and Chirita celebrated their 3:1 victory and thus the TTF's 3:2 win. In the singles, Shunsuke Togami scored twice for Ochsenhausen, defeating Mengel 3:0 and Marcos Freitas 3:1. “I am very happy about my two victories. It was particularly difficult against Marcos. Tiago and Iulian then solved it very well in the doubles,” said Togami. Freitas was successful for Mühlhausen with a 3:0 victory over Chirita and Kay Stumper with a 3:1 victory over Abiodun.

The TTBL continues with match day #8, which starts tomorrow, Friday, November 14: Borussia Dortmund will host TTC Zugbrücke Grenzau at 7 p.m. The other five matches of the match day will take place over the weekend, including the encounter between TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell and TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen (Saturday, 6 p.m.) and the duel between Borussia Düsseldorf and TTC Schwalbe Bergneustadt (Sunday, 12 p.m.). All TTBL matches will be broadcast live on Dyn.
